You can join the volunteer efforts of millions of Americans working to improve people’s lives and our community by becoming a volunteer mediator.
There are multiple ways of volunteering with us!
From supporting our training and youth workshops, to supporting us in the office, all skills are welcome.
We do ask that most volunteers complete a 40-hour Basic Mediation training prior to starting their service, but might not be required.
Becoming a Certified Mediator.
Washington State does not have a mediator certification process through any authorizing or governmental body. For this reason, community dispute resolution centers in our State through our association, Resolution Washington, have established statewide standards for training and certification. This rigorous certification process ensures that the service our clients receive is of the highest quality.
Mediators in training work on their certification at their own pace. While there is no specific timeframe for when a trainee can expect to receive certification, it is possible for a trainee to fulfill the requirements for certification within 12-18 months with a 3-5 hour a month investment. The DRC grants certification based solely on a trainee’s ability to meet the skills needed for competent performance as a mediator and the process identified above should only be viewed as a guideline.
